This week in the My Wild Folk series, we have jewelry designer, Marie Kappenman. Notions of Lovely is Marie's beautiful collection of artisan jewelry. She has an eye for the stunning and unique and creates truly heirloom pieces.

Who are you, and what do you do?
I’m Marie, jeweler and creator behind Notions of Lovely, a jewelry company that celebrates beautiful little details in the world.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love constantly learning new ways to express my ideas. I’m a huge book nerd so I often head to the library and read endlessly about ancient jewelry techniques and crafts.
What songs do you jam to while working?
I definitely live in Indie-Girl-Folk-Land. I love Celtic music and am obsessed with @noellejohnsun on Instagram, her IGTV is stunningly lovely.
Where do you escape to when you’re not working?
My kitchen, and then my garden, and then back to the kitchen. Sometimes my tiny little patio with a good book.
If you were a flower, what kind of flower would you be and why?
Ohhhh... so many choices. Probably an Iris. Vibrant, lovely, classic but never boring, strong. All characteristics I hope to embody.
Tell us your favorite self-care practices:
Hot epsom baths and daily yoga. A
Big part of my self care was quitting my “real job” last Fall. Between running a downtown shop, building Notions of Lovely and being a Mom to two young kids, I was ragged. Making the conscious decision to jump to full time self-employment gives me the flexibility and time to be a better Mom and take care of my self. And when my kids go to bed, Epsom salts and yoga. Yoga with Adriene on YouTube is a lifesaver.
If you could go back in time, where did your high school self think you’d be now?
Definitely not in Oregon! I’m a Michigan native who moved to Oregon for a crazypants job with my St. Bernard and $72 in my bank account. I wouldn’t change it for anything, but I definitely couldn’t have predicted I’d be where I am today.
What Wild Folk products do you use and what are you most looking forward to trying?
I love the Rose Hydrate Mist, it’s so fresh and soothing and smells like heaven. The Rose Mist is my favorite part of getting ready for bed and my skin looks so dewy and soft the next morning. I can’t wait to try the Wild Rose Facial Serum and the Arnica Warming Salve.
What do you love the most about yourself?
I love that creatively, I have no fear. When a beautiful idea comes to me, that needs to me made, I’ll find a way to make it. An ancient Jewelry technique from the Etruscan Era? Time to do some research and get experimenting. An intricate shawl I saw in a picture at a Danish history museum? The instructions are handwritten in Danish, in a photo of an old letter? Ok, That will will be stunning in cranberry wool. I love to gather more skills in my creative arsenal, and I’m relentless. I never know when I’ll need them to create the idea in my mind.
