Writer's picture: Wild FolkWild Folk

My Wild Folk is a series that I've been really excited about for some time now in which I'll be featuring some beautiful babes, who I not only admire deeply, but who love and use Wild Folk products! First up is this diva with daffodils, Shannon Hinderberger. Shannon is a social media and marketing expert and all-around joyful woman.

Who are you, and what do you do?

I'm a mom, wife and entrepreneur. By day, I'm a social media/digital marketing consultant and coach for small businesses. At night, I'm a mom to Benjamin (11) and EmmyLu (7) and wife to Brian.

I moved to Bend, Oregon in 2004 from Omaha, Nebraska where I was born and raised but I always knew in my heart I wouldn't stay close to my family and well Nebraska wasn't for me (even though Omaha and Portland are the same size -- Omaha does have less traffic going for it). I traveled all over the country trying to find the best fit for me and I thought it would be either Minneapolis or Portland, Oregon. where I'd move to. I decided to head down to Bend to visit a college friend after job searching in Portland. I'd visited in 2000 but fell in love on that trip in 2003. My college friend introduced me to my husband as he worked in the marketing in Bend and well, one thing lead to another and we started dating when I moved in 2004.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love coaching busy small business owners on simplifying their online presence. I love seeing that aha moment when they realize that not everything needs to be perfect and how easy it is to put yourself and your business out there.

What songs do you jam to while working?

Wilco is the most underrated American Band. Americana/Rock like Dr. Dog, The War on Drugs, Tame Impala but after seeing Bohemian Rapsody, Queen seems to be in high rotation amongst my family members.

Where do you escape to when you’re not working?

A brewery ... I know it's what everyone in  Bend, Oregon says but I'm a craft beer OG since 1997 and have been fascinated by microbrews (what we called in the 90s)/craftbeer. You can find me running the river trail in warmer weather and snowshoeing in the winter

If you were a flower, what kind of flower would you be and why?

Daffodils are my favorite. In Nebraska, the deer would eat all my tulips so I replaced them all with daffodils. My old email address was something like daffodil@hotmail.com too. I buy them weekly in the Spring when I'm at Trader Joes or the store and my kids will also give them to me on Mother's Day. It all sparked from finding flowers my deer wouldn't eat but they also symbolize the change in season and Spring to me.

Tell us your favorite self-care practices:

My mom always said to "moisturize, moisturize, moisturize" because I come from amazing genetics when it comes to skin (thanks to my mom).  To that, I always invest in a high-quality moisturizer AND non-toxic sunscreen. I have vitiligo (thanks to my dad's genes) so I have non-toxic sunscreen in my purse, car, pool bag, stashed in my house --just about anywhere. I am a serum junkie to after I moisturize, I always use serum too. Other items are I always buy non-toxic cosmetics and perfumes and mask every Sunday night. I really like CBD bath bombs too.

If you could go back in time, where did your high school self think you’d be now?

Be more confident. These years really only matter when it comes to academics so don't sweat the small stuff (like all the high school drama).

What Wild Folk products do you use and what are you most looking forward to trying?

Elderflower Serum and Fleur de Lune Night Serum. I've had so many people compliment my skin after using both saying how much my skin glows. I hardly wear makeup (just mascara, light concealer and eye brown pencil) but people really noticed. I am looking forward to trying Palo Santo Glimmering Body Oil and Rose Hydrate Mist.

What do you love the most about yourself?

I'm not perfect by any means but I've really started to love myself last year through the work I do. I found that I had to be more confident if I was going to help with company's visibility. It took many mantras, affirmations, and visioning to get there but I believe confidence is the key to anything in life.
